Shell

Mission H2 and TeamNL give positive energy to the energy transition. Specifically, the aim of the mission is, together with the government and a large number of Dutch companies, to have realised a mini-chain by the summer of 2024, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, leading to a fully functioning hydrogen market by 2030. Read more about the role and vision of Shell below.

Hydrogen plays a key role in the success of the Dutch energy transition. And preferably green hydrogen, made with power from wind or sun and with no CO2 emissions. Shell has the knowledge, technology and ambition to play an active role in realizing a hydrogen economy in the Netherlands.

Holland Hydrogen 1

On the Second Maasvlakte near Rotterdam, Shell is building the largest electrolyser in Europe. The electrolyser will produce green hydrogen using green power from offshore wind. Shell wants to use this hydrogen to make the energy and chemical park in Rotterdam (formerly Shell Pernis) more sustainable and in parallel for heavy transport by road and water. Shell plans to start producing hydrogen in 2025.

Hydrogen for mobility

Three Shell stations now have hydrogen filling stations. At least two more will be added. Motorists can fill up there with green-certified hydrogen to get back on the road after three to five minutes of filling up. In 2021, Shell also took into use its first hydrogen filling station for buses in Groningen. The buses also run on green-certified hydrogen until we can produce the green hydrogen we need ourselves.
